Creating Your Dream Home: From Concept To Design Development

A successful design concept never comes from random ideas - it begins with understanding you, your lifestyle, and the unique possibilities and constraints of your home. At Studio A Mogard, whether we’re working on a historic home on Gotland, or a 1920s apartment in Stockholm, we start every project by immersing ourselves in your vision and how you want to live.

THE CONCEPT PHASE: CREATING YOUR VISION

This first phase is all about exploration and dreaming. We ask detailed questions about your daily routines, the atmosphere you want each room to evoke, and the way you hope to feel in your home. Some clients arrive with a clear idea of what they want, while others need guidance to uncover their personal style.

We draw inspiration from a wide range of sources - from Scandinavian interiors and Swedish Grace villas to historic architecture across Stockholm - highlighting how proportion, materials, lighting, and texture influence the atmosphere of a space. From there, we craft moodboards that combine colors, fabrics, furniture, textures, and even objects or landscapes, capturing the essence and emotion of your project before any technical decisions are made.

Functionality is just as important as aesthetics. What works seamlessly for one client may not suit another, which is why we prioritise open discussion about how you live and move through your home. Together, we explore scope, budget, and the level of detail that best serves your lifestyle. Being thoughtful and precise at this stage ensures your home is both personal and practical, ready to support the way you live.

MAPPING AND VISUAL STORYTELLING

Next, we begin mapping each space visually. This isn’t yet about final choices of materials or fixtures, but about telling the story of your home - how each room connects, how light flows, and how spaces support daily life. This process allows us to experiment with layouts, proportions, and materials virtually, giving clients a clear sense of their home’s potential before committing to specifics.

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT: BRINGING THE VISION TO LIFE

Once the concept is fully defined, we move into Design Development. Here, the technical and creative work intensifies. For each space, we research materials, fixtures, textiles, and bespoke furniture. We sketch solutions, create detailed drawings, and explore multiple configurations. What clients see as the final design is the result of hours of testing, refining, and problem-solving.

Our approach ensures that the homes we create - whether a heritage home in Gotland, a penthouse in central Stockholm, or a coastal villa in Copenhagen - are both beautiful and functional. From bespoke joinery to lighting and furniture placement, every decision is intentional, balancing practicality with timeless elegance, while respecting the history and character of the building.

WHY THIS APPROACH MATTERS

By combining the dreamy concept phase with rigorous design development, we create homes that are personal, functional, and deeply reflective of each client’s lifestyle. Each project benefits from our focus on architectural detail, material quality, and harmonious design.
